What would you do if that was what woke up to? Have you ever worried about that? Stayed up at night wondering if you’re inventory was safe? It’s a very real scenario and it’s happened to a few of our now clients, who came to us after their worst nightmare was realized. Shockingly, we’ve even had it happen to a prospective client who was in the process of a getting quote from us when it happened overnight!
They were all too late. But now recognizing where their security defense fell short, they partnered with us to light their property and prevent any further thefts.
What to Do After a Break-in?
Let’s say you were put in their shoes.
Scenario #1: Reactive Security
You drive into work one day and your office is broken into. You scan the room and slowly realize, “Oh my gosh, my laptop is missing, and the servers are gone. We’ve been robbed!” If you have indoor and outdoor security cameras, you begin to roll back the tapes to see if you can identify any persons of interest. Unfortunately, the lights were off in your office so the indoor cameras couldn’t see, and you had no perimeter security lighting around your property to provide enough light for the cameras to record anything of use. The trail is cold.
Now, you’re only recourse is to call the police, file reports, speak with detectives, and begin the long process of working with your insurance company to recoup your losses and pray that everything is replaceable, including your data, and that your insurance company doesn’t raise your rates or worse, drop you completely.
This is a reactive security approach: Reacting only after an incident has occured.
Scenario #2: Proactive Security
Proactive security measures are the opposite. You prepare for the worst by installing the best line of defense: outdoor security lighting plus outdoor security cameras. In this scenario, a guard or camera monitoring service can immediately identify that there is an intruder and alert the police. The intruder is apprehended at the scene and boom: the “what if” scenario never occurs. That’s proactive security and you get the credit. Or, better yet, the perimeter security lighting wards off potential intruders because they don’t want to get caught in the first place.
What is Theft Prevention Worth to You?
Maybe there is a third scenario. Maybe you have taken steps toward proactive security. You have a layered security system to slow and deter criminals when they are in the building, but what about outside? Or maybe you’ve employed an access control system, motion detectors, and even a fence. But what happens when they start to climb over it? Well, you add barbed wire. Then they start cutting through the fence and barbed wire. Now you need cameras. But they keep coming, and now you realize your cameras don’t perform well at night. You either need to buy far more expensive cameras that don’t require outdoor security lighting, or you must invest in a security lighting system so the outdoor cameras can see at night and in color, the way they are intended to work.
Here’s what you might not realize: a low-voltage security system is more affordable than you think—and far less expensive than adding low-light cameras.
If you’re still not convinced that adding high-quality low-voltage security lighting, consider this. How much will it cost you if your inventory is stolen? The hike in insurance? The countless unbillable hours dealing with police and insurance reports? The intangible downward turn in company morale and feelings of security on premises? Or worse, the loss of the invaluable: information and property that is hard or impossible to replace? What is it all worth to you?
We’ve Installed Perimeter Security Lighting, Now What?
If we’ve sold you on making the fractional investment in high-performing low-voltage outdoor security lighting and you get it installed, all you need to do now is simply go home, watch the game, spend time with you family, and go about your evenings without a worry in the world. Now doesn’t that seem worth it?
